The region of Burgundy is famous for the concept of "mid-slope", this is the midpoint on the slope between the steeper eroded upper parts, and the flatter limey calcareous soils on the bottom. Not only does it get the optimum mixture of the soil types, but also ideal drainage, and exposure to sunshine and wind. It is here where you will generally find the Grand Cru vineyards.
