Guide: Eric Keely
Short Bio: Eric was born and raised along the Allegheny Mountains in Western Pennsylvania. Whether he was canoeing down the Allegheny River, boating in Tionesta or mountain biking and camping with his buddies, Eric was always a fan of the outdoors. He received his degree in Communications Media at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in which a radio dj job brought him to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Another wonderful place for outdoor lovers, the Outer Banks was his home for the better part of a decade. He has been a radio dj, bartender, restaurant assistant manager, musician, roofer, beer vendor and now his travels have brought him to Austin Lehman Adventures. Eric will always display a positive attitude. He loves to laugh, a die-hard fan of sports, may be a little goofy from time to time but will never stray away from showing guests of Austin Lehman Adventures the vacation of a lifetime.

Trips Guided by Eric:

  2. Montana- Big Sky, Yellowsotne & Paradise Valley
  3. Yellowstone- Adult and Family

Eric's Guide Survey:

What’s your favorite vacation destination?
Alaska for sure. It's almost like you are on another planet. The mountains, the glaciers and the atmosphere up there will blow you away. Watching a tidewater glacier calve is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

What’s your favorite bike ride?
It's a tie between the Girdwood to Bird Point ride in Alaska (or as I call it and sing it to guests, the Gird to Bird, Gird Gird Gird, G-Gird to Bird) and Antelope Flats to Mormon row with a spectacular view of the Grand Tetons.

What’s your favorite hike?
Hands down, the Narrows at Zion National Park. Holy moly! A close second would be hiking through Muir Woods. Gigantic Red Woods and Return of the Jedi was filmed there, what else can I say?

What’s your favorite trip to guide?
Alaska with the Yellowstone/Tetons being a close second.

Why?
Just as I said before about Alaska, it is breathtaking. As is the Yellowstone/Tetons trip. The Jackson Hole area and Yellowstone makes you realize how dynamic our planet really is.

What do you do that makes a guest’s vacation special?
Talk to them, relate to them and make them feel at ease. A lot of our guests work long, hard hours at their jobs. This is a break from the “real world” and my job is to make it as stress free as I possibly can. Laughter is the best medicine and I'll do my best to bring that aspect to their vacation as well.

Favorite Movie: Transformers (2007)

Favorite Book: To Kill A Mockingbird

Favorite Song: Depends on my mood, music is a big part of my life

Favorite Outdoor Activity? Snorkeling in Maui.

Describe the most amazing experience you’ve had while guiding a trip:
It would have to be out on the water in Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska. It was a foggy day so you could not see land. We started hearing "blowing" noises in the water coming right for us. It was a pod of about 15-20 orca whales and they swam right by the boat. It was eerie and so cool at the same time

When did you first catch the travel bug?
My family didn't travel much while I was growing up. When I was a teenager I went to the beach in Ocean City, MD with my best friend's family. After that, it was on! I wanted to go everywhere! Pretty simple start but I knew right then and there I wanted to see what was out there.
