Canadian Rockies Guide Jill Rajewicz
Back to Guide Pages >>
Guide: Jill Rajewicz Short Bio: Jill caught the adventure bug early in life. She and her sister were only teenagers when her mom relocated them to New Zealand. In New Zealand, Jill experimented with climbing, mountaineering and biking. She fully indulged her desire to explore the great outdoors while working in the outdoor clothing and equipment industry in Calgary. For 5 years, she explored all around the Rockies and BC, having amazing experiences.
Jill is currently attending a university in Calgary and pursuing a science degree. She considers herself lucky to live in a city with one million people where huge mountain ranges and remote glaciers are in her backyard. Most of the time she can be found ski-touring, hiking, scrambling and mountain biking in the Rockies. On her most recent adventure, she spendt 2 months hiking and backpacking in the mountains of Peru. She loves to grow vegetables, do yoga, read, swim and drink good coffee. Her biggest passion, however, is enjoying nature and the outdoors. She has a great desire to share the places she loves with others.

Jill's Guide Survey:
What’s your favorite vacation destination?
I spend a lot of vacations in and around Nelson, B.C. The scenery is amazing, there are great lakes to swim in, awesome food, and wild mountain biking and backcountry skiing.
What’s your favorite hike?
The Rockwall circuit in Kootenay National Park. It's a 3-4 day backpacking trip with huge peaks, glacial lakes and seemingly endless alpine meadows. You get to spend a lot of time up high in the alpine environment. Plus, it's a good place to spot wildlife.
What’s your favorite bike ride?
Favorite of all time: the Slickrock trail in Moab. There is great desert scenery, and you can ride gravity-defying angles!
Locally: Moose Mountain. It's got a lot of climbing but the ride down seems to go on forever.
What’s your favorite trip to guide?
I guide the Canadian Rockies trips, and I especially enjoy the family trips. I love seeing kids being passionate and excited about the natural world, asking questions, spotting animals and birds, and eating all the weird things that we let them. I also love seeing families enjoy each other, challenge each other and accomplish amazing things together.
What do you do that makes a guest’s vacation special?
I love to surprise guests with the little things. It's fun to adapt to each group and make sure that birthday or that anniversary or that new-found bravery is celebrated. I love surprising guests with a gourmet picnic in the middle of nowhere, or hot chocolate and a fluffy towel after a morning of rafting. It keeps me on my toes to think of new ways to surprise and delight people.
Favorite Movie: Alone Across Australia, The Castle
Favorite Book: Too many to pick... but I really like Dave Eggers.
Favorite Song: Harrisburg by Josh Ritter.
When did you first catch the travel bug?
Moving to New Zealand when I was 15 made me realize how big and diverse the world is and opened my eyes to other cultures.
What are your hobbies?
Growing food, reading, yoga, making art, and doodling.
