Gringo – Book Review by Bill

Filed under: Bill's Book Corner — ALA @ 3:29 pm

Recently I changed planes in Minneapolis on my way to Atlanta. My only stop on my dash from gate-to-gate was the bookstore. Displayed prominently at the register was Chesa Boudin’s new book Gringo. I bought it, and then ran like heck to catch my flight! If you like travel, politics or Latin America…you will love Gringo.

My Review:

In Gringo, Boudin visits Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Equador and Venezuela. He shares his experiences in learning the Spanish language and learns that there are many differences, subtle and not so subtle throughout Latin America. He gets very close to the Chavez Government in Venezuela, the college culture in Chile and the people or rural Guatemala. His transportation experiences are as varied as the countries he visits…steam ships on the amazon….luxury intercity buses in Chile…. oh yes, and lots of walking. I finished the book as my flight landed in Atlanta. Pack this one in your briefcase for the next trip.

I rate this 4 reading glasses out of 5!

  1. Hi Bill
Sounds like a great read! I’m very interested in learning more about Latin American and the various aspects. This sounds like a good start. Love the new “glasses” rating system. Great idea of having a weekly book corner. What other great idea will Austin-Lehman come up with to keep me coming back!! I’ll be tuning in next week!
