Montana Guide Dennis Garnett
Back to Guide Pages >>
Guide: Dennis GarnettShort Bio: Oliver Wendell Holmes said it best, “We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.” Over the past 10 years, Dennis has guided from Arizona to Yellowstone, from Alaska to Yosemite.
As a geologist for the past thirty years, Dennis loves to share his knowledge of geology along high mountain trails and through deep river canyons. He passionately describes the workings of mud pots, fumaroles, geysers and other geothermal features. He talks of plate tectonics, anticlines, sync lines and over-thrust faults, mixed with discussions on depositional environments and erosional sequences.
As an Infantry Officer, you might expect an intense leader. But 25 years of outdoor youth leadership gives him the ability to coax the tired or timid, whether they're ten years old or forty, up to high mountain cirques, through challenging bike rides, or down free-rappels.
Join Dennis for a trip and you'll be delighted as he regales you with stories about charging elephants in Zimbabwe and rampaging hippos in Zambia. During the past decade he has trekked the Andes, the Alps, the Himalaya, and Kilimanjaro. Among others, he has white-watered on the Zambezi, Bio Bio, and Futaleufu rivers. He has biked solo across Alaska from the Beaufort Sea to the Gulf of Alaska, and across America from the San Juan Islands to Chesapeake Bay. During the spring, you can catch him in Moab challenging Slick Rock or the White Rim trail.
“Las canas no quitan las ganas.”
Gray hair does not take away desire.
