Austin-Lehman’s 6-day adventure follows the Cascades Scenic Loop, a 400-mile stretch of highway circling the heart of Washington from the waters of Puget Sound, across the Cascade Mountains and into the high desert climate of the Columbia River Valley. By day, hike and bike along wildflower-strewn trails and into sub-alpine zone, soaking up jaw dropping views. Washingon tours begin and end in Seattle. Austin-Lehman makes a “Loop” along the Cascades Highway. Hike Mount Baker Wilderness, walking along the broad, wildflower-strewn Iron Goat Trail, an abandoned stretch of right-of-way that once belonged to the mighty Great Northern Railway. Leavenworth and Mountain Home Lodge is your home for the night where you will be greeted by a wonderful meal accompanied with fine local wines prepared by gourmet chef Thomas Obregon. Mount up for an exciting and invigorating mountain bike ride, right from the Lodge steps. Our trail has several options, including a 1.5 mile ascent to a peak with 360 views of the surrounding area. Enjoy lunch in Leavenworth, Washington, home to authentic Bavarian shops and restaurants. Swim, hike or enjoy the world class spa facilities before taking dinner at Sun Mountain Lodge's Wine Cellar, featuring over 5,000 bottles and 450 different labels! Bike ride through Methow Valley, bordered by both the Chewuch and the Methow Rivers. Originally founded in 1891 as a trading post, Winthrop still has an “old” west charm and you may explore it at your leisure one evening. Ride high into the Cascades to our northern trailhead at Rainy Pass. Hit the trail, surging into sub-alpine zone and expansive, jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Cascades. Continue the Loop up and over Washington Pass, arriving in Marblemount. Cycle right from the Inn along back roads to Cascade Creek. Hike to Monogram Lake and into Cascades National Park. Bike west to the logging community of Darrington where you will learn about logging today. We conclude the Loop as we head back to Seattle.
