Join us as we roam South Africa for nearly two weeks! We'll be experiencing and blogging a journey through a region we've just added to our vacations portfolio for 2008. View all of our trips to Africa.
Our experiences will be posted on our journal page, Africa Blog: Virtual Safari, where we will catalogue the happenings and highlights of each 24-hour stride across some of the world’s most vibrant wilderness. We hope you'll comment or ask any questions you have about Africa or the trip. Queries will be answered daily from the bush. “Through words, photos and video we want to give folks the information they need in our new virtual world so that they can test what we’re doing against their own travel dreams and desires,” says Dan Austin, Director and a founding partner of our upscale, multi-sport adventure company. “We have a cadre of loyal clients who will be alerted to our blog. We promise to be truthful. We’ll ask all the questions a traveler would ask: itinerary details, distances on hikes and bikes, safety and security, health and visa information, packing list, amenities and so forth.”
“South Africa fits the Austin-Lehman Adventures model as it features opportunities for multi-sport activities, iconic destinations, upscale accommodations in tented camp and hotel lodgings, fine cuisine and wines and, of course, its incredible, accessible wildlife,” he says.
The ALA Africa Adventure Team will be led by Austin, ALA’s founding partner and director of program development; Carmin Arnot, ALA’s Regional Director and Africa Expert has lived and traveled extensively through the area and will provide the logistical knowledge and support; adventure travel neophyte Vanessa Jupe, ALA’s Marketing Manager and Head Blogger will be experiencing Africa with fresh eyes adding her insights along the way; and joining them to document the journey through images will be Dennis Coello (www.denniscoello.com), award-winning still and video photographer whose work has appeared in the pages of Patagonia, Outside Magazine, Backpacker, Adventure Cycling, Vogue, and Men’s Journal. Austin notes, “As we transition into Africa, our blog can help put to rest certain anxieties folks may have of experiencing this wondrous continent. We’ll start in the urban environment of Cape Town, kayak with penguins, bike in wine country and go on horse and jeep safaris on a private reserve. We’ve taken all the activities Austin-Lehman is known for and now offer them on a daily basis as you experience Southern Africa”
“We’ll be working with local guides, all South African, who know what’s good, what’s changed and where all the big tour groups go and thus, how to avoid them. They have done every hike, bike and kayak trip so that you’ll enjoy the most rewarding options available. We’ve taken a beautiful place with so much to offer and then asked the locals to show us around,” Austin explains.
