From the Field: Germany Family Adventure Vacation

“The quaint village of Bernkastel, chock full of half-timbered houses, is great fun for shopping. Be sure to try a glass of the local wine, Bernkasteler Doktor, named after a prince who was cured from his illness after drinking it.”

~ Kavya Bisz, Guide

A few more reasons why you've gotta go…

  1. The castles: Germany is packed with princely palaces, each with a long and thrilling history echoing through its halls and chambers. From “Mad” Prince Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein—the model for Disney’s Cinderella castle to dozens of fortress-like castles precariously perched on cliffs.
  2. St. Castor’s Church: Founded in the year 836 AD, it’s the oldest church in Coblence. It has magnificent towers, many beautiful flowers and a fountain where Napoleon used to let his horses drink.
  3. The Ludwig Museum: It houses a great collection of works from Pop Art, Abstract and Surrealism and has one of the largest Picasso collections in Europe. It also features many works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Additionally, It’s the only building still remaining from the "Order of German knights," dating back to the 12th century.
  4. The Mosel Wine Route: It’s a region full of natural beauty, wineries, fantastic historic sites, fine dining and quiet, romantic places.
