Havasupai: a Grand Canyon Oasis Adventure From the Field: Arizona Adventure

At Austin-Lehman Adventures, our guests are our best ambassadors. Here's an excerpt from one couple's journal about their Grand Canyon Havasu tour:

"It was really a very memorable trip—a 'can't top this one' sort of adventure. We were all challenged but not pushed to do more than we were able. From ages 7-75 our family thanks you for offering this unique experience!"

~ Carol and Bill Wood, Rockville, Maryland - Havasupai

Havasupai: a Grand Canyon Oasis Adventure

You'll have to hike it to believe it
Not many people know that nestled deep in the Grand Canyon is a hidden treasure: an oasis of lush, spring-fed pools, cascading waterfalls and dense vegetation. It's called Havasu.

Trek along narrow side canyons, through underwater grottos and past gardens of ferns and watercress, pausing to soak up the awe-inspiring overlooks of the Grand Canyon as you make your way to your Havasu base camp, accessible only by foot. Visit the Native American village of Supai, the most remote village in the country, where the U.S. mail still arrives by packhorse. Pause for a dip at the base of the 100-foot Havasu Falls and learn how the native Havasupai have co-existed with nature for generations in such a remote, untouched landscape.

By night, relax in the mineral-rich waters of a natural hot tub before feasting on a delectable dinner and wallowing in the quiet comfort of your deluxe base camp, tucked away against the walls of the Grand Canyon.

A few more reasons why you've gotta go...

  1. To hear the story of the "Two Brothers:" the stone pillars perched above the village of Supai.
  2. To mail a post card from the the Supai Village Post Office: the only remaining site in the U.S. that still delivers mail by mule train.
  3. The natural Jacuzzi tubs: created by swirling waters and travertine mineral deposits, they're are a great place to unwind off after an active day.
  4. The ice cream floats: they always taste better at the friendly Snow Cap Drive-In along Historic Route 66.
